The PLAN-A trial is looking to appoint casual Fieldworkers for a period of up to 4 months.

PLAN-A is a cluster randomised trial. The study involves participation from Year 9 girls in 20 schools across the South West of England and is designed to train girls to be peer-supporters and encourage their friends and classmates to increase their physical activity. The study is being conducted following a successful feasibility trial which tested the methods and found favourable evidence of promise that the intervention could be effective.

Tasks will include:

  • Supporting the project team with preparation of project resources ahead of data collection visits to schools (e.g preparing information packs, setting up tablet devices)
  • Supporting the project team on data collection visits, collecting survey, data and fitting accelerometers in a school setting
  • Accelerometer initialising, downloading and data processing
  • Data entry
  • Undertaking any additional tasks to ensure the smooth running and success of the project

The appointed person(s) will work as part of the PLAN-A project team to support them during busy periods of data collection. The working hours will be agreed upon beforehand to accommodate the appointee’s schedule and the PLAN-A timeline, but may be up to full time 35 hours per week. All tasks described above will be conducted in the ENHS offices at 12 Woodland Rd, Bristol or out at schools. Transport may be provided for school visits, though access to personal transport would be advantageous.

Computer literacy is essential with experience in particular of MS Word and Excel as well as data input and data processing. Candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of data protection and dealing with confidential information as well as the ability and willingness to learn and develop new skills. Experience of working within a school setting would be an advantage but not essential. Successful candidates will also need to complete a DBS application.
