Job description

The School of Physical Sciences and Computing provides Honours and Masters degrees in various aspects of computing (see As the courses are vocational, tutorial and practical classes are an important part of the teaching.

The primary purpose of this role is to support module tutors in Computing by delivering practical and tutorial class sessions. The role may involve undertaking marking and assessment using provided marking schemes and providing feedback to students, normally in-class. As well as appointing suitable candidates to meet current needs, we hope to build a list of people we can call on in future.

The successful candidates will have experience of working in a computing-related area and an Honours degree in computing or closely related discipline. They will have practical and theoretical skills relevant to the School's current needs. Enthusiasm and good communication and presentation skills are vital for teaching students in practical or tutorial classes, which involve a high degree of interaction.

The candidates must be well-organised with the ability to work effectively and efficiently as an individual and as a member of a team.

School/Service: School of Physical Sciences & Computing
Hours: We expect a range of computing teaching to be available over the coming year, in areas such as programming, computer security and critical analysis. Currently, approximately 4 hours per week in each of 2 areas (critical analysis (MSc) and games programming (year 1)) are available for Semester 1 at Senior Demonstrator level. It is possible that more hours in different areas will be available in future at Senior Demonstrator level, so we hope to build up a bank of potential demonstrators as well as filling immediate roles.
Basis: Staff paid by the hour contract, semester by semester
