Technical Associate, Animal Imaging and Preclinical Testing Facility
TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, ANIMAL IMAGING AND PRECLINICAL TESTING (AIPT) CORE FACILITY, Koch Institute (KI) for Integrative Cancer Research, to test new chemotherapeutics in mouse models of cancer in the AIPT Core Facility. The mission of this facility is to assist and accelerate the process of moving scientific breakthroughs from KI benchtops to the clinics for cancer patients. The facility supports these translational efforts using refined models of human cancers and provides assistance with design, approval, and execution of relevant preclinical trials; and provides access to instrumentation, training, and analysis support for in vivo whole animal imaging including optical, ultrasound, microCT and MRI technologies. Will assist with preclinical efficacy studies and advanced animal imaging technologies and analysis. Responsibilities will include thoughtful and humane induction and treatment of tumor models; animal imaging; project management; data entry, verification, and presentation; general lab operations; mouse colony management; PCR-based genotyping; and various biochemical assays.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or similar field; at least two years’ specialized lab experience (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate); superior organizational, observational, and communication skills; commitment to exceeding quality standards providing exceptional services, and following established protocols faithfully; methodical attention to detail; practiced documentation skills; ability to work collaboratively with the diverse MIT research community; and enthusiasm for learning and using a wide array of instrumentation and experimental procedures. Experience in preclinical trials, particularly with mouse tail vein injections would be ideal; as would experience with imaging, particularly optical imaging and/or ultrasound applications. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with animal handling, preclinical efficacy studies, and ultrasound/photoacoustic imaging.
Salary range: $47,500-$55,000
Flexible work schedule is required, including some evening and weekend work.
