Job Description

Occupational Summary 

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory experiments and tests and determinations in support of Duke University research operations.

Work Performed 

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved conducting biological, physical, or other research experiments to obtain data for research purposes; compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results.

Confer with principal investigator or the senior research scientist to review work assignment.

More specifically, the person will work closely with a senior research scientist to perform the following duties:

  • Perfusion of mice
  • Cryostat sectioning
  • Immunostaining
  • Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) including multiplex single molecule FISH
  • Confocal imaging
  • Analysis of histology results
  • Injection of deficient viruses into the peripheral muscles in mice
  • Stereotaxic surgeries​

Required Qualifications and Skills: 

Education:

Work requires a bachelor's degree in biology, neuroscience, or related research field.

Experience:

  • Experience with molecular biology, histological techniques or stereotaxic surgery is preferred but not absolutely required
