The Technical Services team in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health wish to recruit a Laboratory Technician to provide technical support with minimal supervision for all of the biobanking activities taking place within the centre for integrated genomic medical research (CIGMR) namely, CIGMR biobank. This will entail good technical knowledge of a sophisticated laboratory information management system (LIMS), robotic sample handling workstations and other equipment required to process, store, track, cherry-pick and withdraw biological samples according to customer requests. The role therefore includes the running and trouble shooting of experiments; the maintenance, use and teaching of associated equipment and assisting fellow team members in ensuring that staff and students operate safe working practices ensuring health and safety compliance within the laboratories.

You should have knowledge of biological sample handling and practical experience in biobanking processes. Experience of working with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is essential. Familiarity with Q Pulse quality management software or with ISO quality standards would be an advantage though training and support will be given.
