The School of Histories, Languages and Cultures is seeking to appoint to the role of Deputy Director of the Liverpool Confucius Institute and Lecturer in Chinese Studies. The substantive part of this is role is to act as the University of Liverpool funded Deputy Director of the Liverpool Confucius Institute. The post-holder will work alongside the Chinese Director of the Liverpool Confucius Institute (LCI) to fulfil the strategic objectives of the LCI. In addition to the role within the LCI, the post-holder will be expected to contribute to lecturing and language teaching within the Faculty of Humanities in areas of their own academic expertise. Preferred areas include translation studies and Chinese cinema. Contributions will also be required to deliver classes on Chinese as a foreign language, providing credit-bearing and extra-curricular language classes to students with a range of proficiencies from beginner to intermediate, and managing their assessment.
You will have a PhD or EdD in a subject directly relevant to the role and have fluency or native-speaker competence in Chinese, including excellent speaking and writing skills. It will be essential that the post-holder has some interest and experience in language teaching pedagogy appropriate for the UK Higher Education sector, and familiarity with quality assurance processes.
