Neurology of Raleigh 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

Monitors, manages and maintains patient scheduling for the Neurology service at Duke Neurosciences of Raleigh. Provides administrative support to neurology physicians and clinical staff. Provides a consistently available, medically trained, point-of-contact, for patients. 

JOB DUTIES

  • Rooming patients, making sure medications are up to date and all information is correct prior to visit.
  • Medication refill management
  • Provides patient education during appointment
  • Other administrative duties as necessary
  • Triages and manages provider and team in basket messaging under supervision of nurse manager
  • Acts as clinical liaison between patients, clinical and clerical teams
  • Provides staffing coverage when clinic demands dictate
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Knowledge of scope of licensed practical nurse, ability to delegate to nursing support staff.
  • Considerable knowledge of the care and treatment of patients and special procedures that apply to practical nursing. Able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively.
  • Able to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others.
  • Able to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care.
  • Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up. Competent in BLS and/or other specialized life support requirements designated by work area or organization.
  • Able to use fine motor skills. Able to record activities, document interventions.
  • Able to use computer and learn new software programs.
  • Able to navigate the entity to provide clinical care for patients.
  • Able to withstand prolonged standing and walking.
  • Able to remain focused and organized.
  • Working knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures that are applicable to work performed.
  • Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients.
  • Working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene and basic health and safety precautions applicable to work in a hospital.
  • Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Working knowledge and completion of appropriate JCAHO and other regulatory requirements.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/ PREFERENCES 

Work requires graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program and successful completion of an approved Pharmacology program. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS/ PREFERENCES

1 year of nursing experience, minimum.

LICENSURE/ CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Current State of North Carolina LPN licensure is required. 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work under time pressures in a busy clinic/office environment.
  • Must be present on site for 8 hour shifts during standard business hours.
  • Must participate in group activities requiring interpersonal skills & cooperation.
  • Must work as late person when scheduled or according to business needs
  • Must be able to react quickly and immediately respond to emergencies.
  • Must travel between locations on needed basis.
  • Must be able to handle multiple assignments, conflicting demands & priorities.
  • Must maintain attention to detail over extended period of time.
  • Must be continually aware of variations in changing situations.
  • Must be able to move throughout office environment throughout day.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to push/pull 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to carry 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to reach for objects by extending arms
