The University of Manchester has recently announced major investment in a new, leading-edge Digital Image Viewer, which will unleash the research potential of the University of Manchester Library’s outstanding Special Collections and (in future phases) other cultural assets of the University. This project is being developed in collaboration with the Cambridge Digital Library. The Image Viewer will integrate high-resolution images with rich TEI metadata and researcher-generated content.
We are seeking an experienced project manager to ensure the successful integration of the Image Viewer into Library systems and processes for the digitisation and documentation of Special Collections materials; to review, and to revise where necessary, the management of image files, digitisation workflows, and in-house metadata standards and protocols relating to Special Collections; and to develop a business plan for the long-term development of the Image Viewer. You will have experience of managing complex projects to tight deadlines within the Higher Education or Cultural sectors, knowledge and experience of working with metadata standards such as TEI, knowledge of current and emerging digital library practices and technologies, knowledge of XML and XSLT, and knowledge of developments, standards and practices in the digital humanities.
You should demonstrate how you meet each of the criteria required in the person specification by giving specific examples in the “additional information” section of the online application form
The flexibility to work occasionally outside office hours and at weekends to plan, attend or support Library events and initiatives is assumed.
