Job Purpose: You will have responsibility for the provision of Library and Information Services to students studying at BPP’s learning centre at London Holborn and oversight including line management responsibilities for library staff at BPP’s Bristol centre.
Job Background: BPP University has grown rapidly since gaining degree awarding powers in 2007 and now consists of four academic schools BPP Law School, BPP Business School, BPP School of Health and BPP School Nursing. BPP’s Library and Information Service aims to provide library services to support BPP University programmes at learning centres across the UK and online. BPP’s London Holborn centre delivers programmes to over 2500 professional law students with a core population of Legal Practice Course (LPC), Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) and LLM students.
- Provide managerial guidance and support to the library team in the day-to-day management of the library & information services at BPP’s learning centres at London Holborn and Bristol, including maintaining the collections, managing the study space and providing other library academic liaison services.
- recruit, supervise, appraise and train staff, including line management of Information Services Assistants. help and advise staff and students in making effective use of printed and online information sources. design and deliver inductions, face-to-face and online training programmes (small group sessions and lectures). Train other members of staff to be able to deliver the programmes where appropriate. liaise with teaching, IT, administration and operations teams to ensure an optimal student experience. work with the Acquisitions Librarian and Systems Librarian to coordinate and develop resources, including collection development and management, online information services, the online library and other initiatives. work with the Materials Distribution Manager and other stakeholders to develop processes and procedures to distribute materials to students and assist with the distribution of materials as required. work with the Head of Library & Information Services to develop strategic plans to ensure a quality service is offered to all users. Work and lead on associated projects to encourage and implement a culture of continuous improvement in the library. develop and maintain performance monitoring systems and quality assurance procedures. maintain an awareness of current developments in relevant information and technology areas. develop and maintain relationships through relevant professional networks and such as The British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL) . and perform from time to time such other duties as may be consistent with the post.

Education and Qualifications
Educated to degree-level. Yes
A professional qualification in library/information science. Yes
Experience and Knowledge
High levels of IT literacy including Microsoft Office programmes (Word, Excel, Outlook), Library Management Systems and Virtual Learning Environments. Yes
An understanding of the key print and online information resources to support law programmes. Yes
Experience in staff supervision or management. Yes
