The University of Manchester is looking for eLearning Technologists to join a new team that will support the significant expansion of the distance learning course portfolio across the University. The role involves supporting academic colleagues in the development of creative and pedagogically sound online teaching materials for new distance-learning courses in a variety of disciplines.

You will work closely with academic, administrative and support staff to help further the University’s strategic aims to incorporate distance learning into its programmes of study. You will proactively manage design and development projects across multidisciplinary teams and ensure that all project outcomes are focussed on enhancing the student experience.

Candidates are expected to have a degree or equivalent professional experience and significant experience of learning design and the development of eLearning materials for delivery in a virtual learning environment (VLE). You must have demonstrable technical skills in the production of creative learning solutions using common authoring tools and methods, including XHTML, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Flash/ActionScript, and digital media technologies.

Candidates will require the proven ability to successfully manage projects to delivery, prioritise workloads and work effectively as part of a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential. Candidates will also be expected to have experience of working with standards and guidance relating to online learning, particularly in the areas of accessibility, copyright and data protection.

It would be advantageous, but not necessary, to have experience of working with the Blackboard Learn 9.1 VLE, as well as familiarity with working in a higher education environment. Experience in graphic design would also be helpful, but not a requirement.

The positions are available immediately and will be offered on a 1 year fixed-term contract.
