Job description

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is seeking to appoint a highly ambitious Senior IP and Commercialisation professional to join its team based in Preston, Lancashire. The successful candidate will support the delivery of a broad range of commercialisation activities (Trade Marks, Patents, Copyrights, Design Rights, etc.) to enable researchers to convert their research into opportunities that are attractive to society, industry and investors.

Assist the Intellectual Property & Commercialisation Manager in the evaluation, protection and commercialisation of its growing intellectual property portfolio with full financial control, monitoring and reporting to drive a significant increase in commercial income and impact.

The principal activities will include managing all IP formalities and IP management system to ensure complete records are maintained at all times. Supporting the activities of academic researchers to commercialise their ideas and supporting the provision of high level training and advisory services on IP protection and commercialisation to academic researchers.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience of working in a similar broad-ranging IP role which involved managing and maintaining an IP system. Knowledge of the IP process is therefore essential.

The role holder will have working knowledge of current higher education policy issues in the UK and experience of patent formalities procedures and filing administration requirements for the UK, Europe and other countries.

The successful applicant will be educated to a degree level in business, law or other relevant qualification. They will be self-motivated and have excellent IT & communication skills as well as a methodical approach to working.
