The Ophthalmic Research Group at the School of Life and Health Sciences is seeking to appoint a 0.2FTE Research Assistant for 24 months on a project investigating the impact of ocular morphology on visual function in Down’s syndrome.  This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a developing field of research at Aston University aimed at investigating visual deficits in children and young adults with special educational needs.

The appointee will engage in a range of research activities to support the delivery of a new grant-funded research project. The research activities include engaging with local support groups to undertake recruitment, obtaining informed consent forms from participants and their families, as well as the collection and analysis of data. Finally, the appointee will actively contribute to the dissemination of the results by writing up the study findings for presentation in study reports, conferences and publications in scientific journals. 

The appointee should have a BSc in Optometry or any relevant Allied Health Profession discipline (or equivalent) and should be able to demonstrate relevant clinical experience. The successful appointee should also be able to demonstrate previous experience with research data gathering and collection and commitment to learn new research methods and approaches
