Job Purpose

The Apprenticeship Student Manager will work with the Head of Academic and Professional Routes (Apprenticeships) to ensure all administrative processes are properly set up to efficiently enrol apprenticeship students onto their programme of study and support them throughout their studies. They will be responsible for ensuring that apprenticeship students receive all necessary information and academic advice throughout their journey through the Law School, ensuring an excellent student experience. They will also assist the Director of Students and Programmes in the successful transition from the current regulatory regimes to the new regime.

The Solicitors Regulatory Authority is introducing the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) and the Bar Standards Board is proposing changes to the Bar Professional Training Course. BPP considers that it is essential that BPP is positioned to offer the SQE across all its Law School programmes and deliver a market leading BPTC. 

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to): 

  • Work with the Head of Academic and Professional Routes (Apprenticeships) to build and maintain relationships between the Law School and key BPP operations teams, including but not limited to EAO, SRO, Student Finance and Student Advice.
  • Provide an appropriate framework for the student journey including induction and access to further qualifications.
  • Review student testing (e.g. diagnostic, English) and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
  • Provide regular communication to students regarding their programme of study, ensuring relevant and consistent messaging for all students.
  • Act as first point of contact for all student queries.
  • Liaise with exclusive Law School clients as required.
  • Actively encouraging students’ engagement with their programmes using resources available.
  • Ensure that processes are in place for dealing with Interruption of Study/Deferral of Study/Extensions and dealing with any queries about return to study date/exam dates.
  • Provide support to students following examination results release around progression, completion and withdrawal.
  • Review the programme ‘at risk’ register ensuring appropriate actions are taken and followed up on.
  • Provide academic and pastoral support to students in accordance with the University Personal Tutoring policy.
  • Ensure that accurate student records are maintained including achievement, progression and learning support.
  • Manage and respond to student complaints/specific requests.
  • Organise the Staff Student Liaison Committee meetings and attending as required and follow up on actions.
  • Ensure students have appropriate access to resources and books.
  • Contribute to the development of appropriate programme systems and processes.
  • Maintain appropriate programme information systems (e.g. Sharepoint).
  • Conduct regular surgeries for students.
  • Generally to assist Senior Law School Team to effectively manage Law School students to ensure the smooth operation of all programmes.
  • Other responsibilities within the remit of the role generally to be agreed from time to time with the Director of Students and Programmes.
