Dean, College of Dentistry
Dean, Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry
The University of Manitoba
The Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba has evolved from a single undergraduate degree program, graduating its first class in 1962, into a multi-faceted professional academy, offering a variety of high quality programs, including: a four-year doctor of dental medicine degree, a two-year dental hygiene diploma, five graduate studies programs, and a considerable research profile involving a wide array of focuses. The College avidly works to improve and stay current in the above fields, and hopes to further explore opportunities involved with new areas as well.
The College is a member of the greater Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, located at the University of Manitoba Bannatyne Campus, which also includes the Max Rady College of Medicine, College of Rehabilitation Sciences, College of Nursing, and College of Pharmacy. The interconnectedness of these colleges provides a unique opportunity for administrative leaders, students and faculty members to interact with colleagues in other health-related disciplines.
The College’s four-level building houses seminar and lecture rooms, computer laboratories, pre-clinical teaching laboratories, research laboratories, state-of-the-art clinics, offices and student lounges – all dedicated to an environment conducive to oral health teaching, research and community service.
The University of Manitoba, founded more than 137 years ago, is located in the heart of the province in Winnipeg, and is the region’s largest research-intensive university. The university community is comprised of close to 30,000 students, 8,700 faculty and staff, and 190,000 alumni. Nearly 13 percent of their current students are international, representing close to 104 countries.
The ideal candidate will have advanced degrees relevant to dentistry, along with clinical, research, and academic experience consistent with an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure. With a demonstrated aptitude for academic leadership, the Dean will be able to engage and inspire a diverse range of people in the evolution of the College’s vision. With a passion for teaching, research and dental practice, the Dean will be a dedicated and effective ambassador for the College with internal and external stakeholders.
