The University of Manchester Library is one of only five National Research Libraries and the third largest academic library in the UK. Our vast and rich collections (both print and increasingly digital) help us to deliver a world-class library and information service for the University of Manchester. While our primary objective is to meet the learning, teaching and research needs of University members, we are also fully committed to widening access to our services to individual researchers, local schools and others in the regional community.

We are seeking a part-time (0.6 FTE) Academic Engagement Assistant within the Library's Academic Engagement Team, part of the Engagement & Special Collections Division. Reporting to one of the Academic Engagement Librarians the post will be responsible for supporting the academic engagement activities of the Library and providing administrative support to the Academic Engagement team.

support and assist in developing effective relationships with stakeholders and customer groups within the University
undertake a variety of tasks integral to the development and delivery of a Library support service for academic and PSS staff
proactively participate as a member of the Academic Engagement team, including involvement in projects, team/departmental development, meetings and delivery of the operational plan
contribute to and support development of the Academic Engagement team’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and the wider roll out/support for other library teams

We are seeking a confident communicator with strong administrative, IT and social media skills who can analyse, collate and present information in a variety of forms, work capably to set deadlines, and represent the Library, and the Academic Engagement team, at School and University events. You should have experience of working in a Library environment and a good level of knowledge of a research library’s information resources and services in all media. You will also have an enthusiasm for the provision of a quality library service and a customer-focused outlook.

Hours & Place of Work

Normal working hours are 21 hours per week to include a Wednesday (the precise pattern of work will be agreed with the successful candidate).

This post is based primarily in the Main Library, Oxford Road. However, all Library employees are required to work at any Library site, as necessary.

All library staff are required to wear a name badge.
