Job Title: Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering (Mechanics and Materials)
Salary Scale: £36,261 - £48,676 (depending on experience)
The School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of the West of Scotland is well established in addition to being an internationally recognised multidisciplinary academic centre. The Engineering, Design and Manufacturing (EDM) Group within the School is seeking to strengthen its teaching and research expertise through the appointment of a Lecturer in the area of Mechanical Engineering (Mechanics and Materials).
The successful candidate will contribute to the development, delivery and management of undergraduate and postgraduate modules and programmes in the Mechanical Engineering, Aircraft Engineering and the Graduate Apprenticeship Programme in Engineering as well as contributing to the other relevant engineering teaching activities in the EDM subject areas.
The prospective candidate should have Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from a professionally accredited Mechanical Engineering programme and be qualified to PhD level in a Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or a closely related discipline. Full membership of an appropriate professional body such as the IMechE (or equivalent) and HEA is desirable. The successful candidate will have experience in module leadership and ideally programme leadership in engineering. They should aspire to take a lead role in developing new innovative teaching practice in the engineering areas outlined.
Relevant research and/or industrial experience in one or more of the fields of Mechanics and Materials and experience with recent developments in these areas with evidence of a proven track record of sustained high quality publications in leading journals are an essential requirement for the post. The School’s research is organised into a close community of industry-focused inter-disciplinary research groups and the successful applicant should establish appropriate research and commercial activities in the aforementioned areas and proactively collaborate with colleagues across all disciplines to enhance the impact of their research and their contribution to UWS research development and ultimate impact in the REF process.
This position will be based at our Paisley Campus with some scheduled activities at our other campus locations such as the new Lanarkshire Campus. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to our outreach activities promoting STEM subjects and our international academic activities.
