New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is an extraordinary achievement and unparalleled opportunity in higher education. In the decade since its founding it has become one of the most selective undergraduate institutions in the world. It is both transformational for the region, and critical to New York University’s vision to be at the forefront of international higher education in the 21st century.
NYU’s agreement with the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to create NYUAD was the outcome of a shared belief in the value of a liberal arts education, an understanding of the benefits a great research university brings to a society, a conviction that interaction with new ideas and people who are different is both valuable and necessary, and a commitment to educating students who are citizens of the world.
NYUAD’s 1,200 undergraduate students are perhaps the most diverse student body in higher education, from more than 110 countries with no one nationality exceeding 17 percent. Its acceptance rates are comparable with the most selective institutions globally.
NYUAD is home to more than 370 faculty and 400 research staff, also drawn from all over the world. They have propelled the University to the forefront of 21st century research in the UAE and Middle East region with more than 60 designated labs, research groups and centers, advancing NYUAD’s vision to be a great research university that addresses complex challenges of global significance. NYUAD’s faculty and students alike benefit from being part of NYU’s incomparable model, which provides them with opportunities to study and research across the global network.
Following the foundational tenure of Alfred Bloom, NYUAD has a strong base and stunning potential. It is now seeking its next Vice-Chancellor, who will be an inspirational leader for the University, an active contributor to the leadership of NYU globally, and an enthusiastic, visible presence in the intellectual and cultural life of Abu Dhabi. They will have a deep commitment to the value of liberal arts education and world-class research and to the connections between them; with a track record of promoting equity, diversity and inclusion; and with an ability to represent NYUAD compellingly to local, national, and international constituencies.
