Supported by the European Regional Development Fund and the Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership, The Bridge is a new-build, state-of-the-art, integrated facility to catalyse growth and productivity for advanced engineering materials R&D in Greater Lincolnshire.

The programme will promote research and innovation in several key sectors of the regional economy: e.g. metals manufacturing, chemicals and petroleum, rubber and plastics, power generation and storage, and semi-conductor and electronics. The Bridge will deliver a regional R&D ecosystem by providing a physical focus for innovation in advanced materials, extending critical mass in expertise, and developing mechanisms for businesses to pool and coordinate resources and engage in partnership for R&D.

The Bridge will be equipped with new instrumentation for interrogation of materials properties, surfaces and interfaces that compliments the extensive existing facilities in the University. Central to the Bridge project is the establishment of new Electron Microscopy facilities equipped with Transmission and dual-beam Scanning EM alongside AFM and micro-spectroscopy.

This new position will support establishment of the laboratories including procurement and commissioning of instrumentation, development of instrumental methods and analytical workflows leading to delivery of R&D projects with partners. Expertise in advanced material science, especially in the support and advanced operation of electron microscopes alongside management and delivery of R&D projects with commercial partners is central to this role,

Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Ian Scowen, (Director of The Bridge:iscowen@lincoln.ac.uk,01522 837010).

The University of Lincoln is an equal opportunities employer. As an institutional Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder we are committed to advancing equality in STEM, therefore female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
