This post represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual to join a team of staff in the Rowett Institute, School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition. The Rowett Institute is one of the foremost nutrition research institutes in Europe undertaking research to address some of the most important contemporary problems in global nutrition. There is a wide range of research carried out within the Institute, from molecular nutrition through to public health.
Applications are invited for a Chair in Host-Microbe Interactions to expand our world-leading expertise in this research area. The post holder will join a very successful team of Rowett scientists who focus on defining the role of the gut in the link between diet and human health, offering a compelling environment given its quality infrastructure. The post holder will play an important role in expanding research activities in the host response to gut microbiome, e.g. the chemical biology and/or immunology behind the gut microbiome and host immune interaction and its importance to diseases such as inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g. Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis).
The post holder will also play a leading role in sustaining and expanding our flagship UG and PGT teaching programmes and courses in nutrition.
We are looking for an ambitious and highly qualified individual with an outstanding international research profile, and with a demonstrable ability to attract significant research funding, to complement and extend the existing activities of the Rowett (http://www.abdn.ac.uk/rowett) and the School (http://www.abdn.ac.uk/smmsn/). We are offering a highly supportive and inspiring environment to build on a high international and interdisciplinary research and teaching profile as part of a permanent employment contract.
The post holder will lead on the development, implementation and coordination of existing and new internationally competitive research activities in the field of host-microbe biology (immunology/chemical biology) to enhance our understanding of the effects of the gut microbiome on host metabolism, as well as identify and lead new opportunities in the translation and clinical application of research findings with colleagues in the Institute of Medical Sciences and the NHS.
The post holder will also participate in established UG/PGT teaching programmes and lead in the development of new courses and on-line teaching content in the area of Immunology, a key area of expertise for medical students and the MSc programme in Immunotherapy.
Public engagement with research is embedded within the Rowett Institute and the appointee will be expected to contribute to this.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 9 salary scale (£59,828 - £67,318 per annum) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
