At TU Dresden, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Forest Sciences, the Institute of Soil Science and Site Ecology invites applications for the

Chair (W2) of Forest Sites and Hydrology

to be filled by April 1, 2023.

The chair represents the field of matter and water cycling of forest sites in research, teaching and public transfer. Research shall focus on the challenges of global change for a site-adapted establishment, transformation and management of forests. In this context, research into the soil water balance is of central importance, due to increasing droughts and resulting problems regarding the provision and management of ecosystem services (e.g. water availability and soil protection). Thus, matter and water fluxes at the site level should be determined; if necessary, complemented by a model-based assessment and prediction of water availability. In this way, the chair establishes a connection between the site and landscape scale and is closely linked to the emerging field of water research within the research priority areas Energy, Mobility and Environment at TU Dresden.

Your teaching obligations comprise the bachelor and master programs “Forest Sciences” and the international master program “Tropical Forestry”. Additional contributions in other study programs of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences are required, for example in the master programs “Spatial Development and Natural Resource Management” and “Hydro Science and Engineering”. We expect your active participation in academic self-administration.

We are looking for an internationally renowned scientist with profound knowledge and experience in the analysis of soil physical properties in the laboratory and in the field as well as experience in and affinity with forest site survey. Ideally, your research is related to landscape-scale analyses and modelling of the soil water balance of forest sites. We expect visibility in the international research community and experience in acquiring third-party funding. The ability to conduct lectures in English is a prerequisite. We also expect experience in interdisciplinary research and the willingness to actively cooperate with researchers from other disciplines within the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and TU Dresden. We expect your active participation in CIPSEM (Center for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management) and collaboration with the Dresden-based UNU-Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and Resources (UNU-FLORES). Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).

For further scientific questions, please contact the head of the appointment committee, Prof. Dr. Goddert von Oheimb, phone +49 351 463-31288, email goddert_v_oheimb@tu-dresden.de.
