Chair (W3) of Powder Metallurgy

to be exercised in conjunction with

the membership in the board of directors of the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials (IFAM)

in a joint appointment procedure at the earliest possible date.

We are looking for a competent scientist who will represent the field “Manufacturing Technologies for Metals with a Focus on high-performance Materials in Mechanical Engineering” in both education and research as well as in research and technology management. Your teaching responsibility in materials science mainly comprises powder metallurgy and sintered materials, materials chemistry, thermophysical methods/high temperature performance, materials for energy as well as production and processing of materials.  We expect the active participation in academic self-administration. TU Dresden represents a teaching and research concept that suggests the successful candidate to relocate to or near Dresden.

You will head the Dresden branch of the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials (IFAM) with approximately 75 employees and be responsible for both scientific-technical and entrepreneurial steering and management of the institute, continuing its specialisation in powder metallurgy and metallic composite materials.

We welcome applications from internationally renowned personalities in the field of modern manufacturing-technologies of metallic construction and functional materials within-depth experience in powder metallurgy. A clear vision and concept for fundamental and application-oriented research towards a scientific understanding along the materials technology – microstructure – property chain is desired.

You have a proven track record in leading interdisciplinary research teams, in the planning, acquisition and management of national and international R&D projects in different business segments in the area of public funding with special regard to industrial projects. Your record also includes competencies in increasing the efficiency of development processes and in technology exploitation. International working and teaching experience as well as networking in science policy are a plus. We assume your pedagogical and didactic aptitude as well as a willingness and ability to conduct classes in German and English. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
