Assistant Professor in Physics of Low-Dimensional Materials

The Center for Photonics and Quantum Materials (CPQM) at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a tentative starting date of January 2021.

CPQM is opening a position of an assistant professor in physics of low-dimensional materials with a focus on applications of carbon nanotubes and low-dimensional materials in optics and optoelectronics. The new professor is expected to perform predominantly experimental research related to the optical properties of carbon nanotubes and other low-dimensional materials including their luminescent properties, nonlinear optical response, excitation dynamics and ultrafast optics aiming to promote applications in ultrafast laser physics, optoelectronic devices, wavelength converters, and other related areas. The successful candidate will work at the CPQM Nanomaterial Laboratory in close collaboration with existing CPQM and Skoltech research groups.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate substantial expertise in optical applications of carbon nanotubes and low-dimensional materials with a relevant publication track record and proven track record in planning, conducting, and leading such projects. Skoltech is part of a self-sustaining innovation ecosystem with mission to support Russian high-tech industry, therefore experience in innovation, R&D and industrial collaboration is required.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in physics or in a suitable engineering discipline. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high-quality scholarly output at the international level that demonstrates potential for independent sustainable research, innovation and teaching activities leading to peer‑reviewed publications in top-level international journals/conferences and excellence in teaching and innovation.

It is expected that the appointed candidate will take an active part in Skoltech and CPQM strategic activities in photonics and quantum materials research and educational programs. Faculty duties include teaching at the graduate level, advising student and innovation projects, and conducting competitive research in the above-mentioned areas at the level of excellence.

All activities at Skoltech are carried out in English. Therefore, candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

The successful candidate shall have his sole affiliation at Skoltech, adjunct affiliations with other leading institutions are encouraged, secondary or multiple affiliations are discouraged.
