We are seeking an outstanding, enthusiastic and collegial individual to join the Department of Linguistics and English Language at Lancaster University as Lecturer in Corpus Linguistics. This is a permanent position, with duties split between teaching, research and service.

You will have a PhD (or award within 12 months) and relevant research experience in Corpus Linguistics. Candidates with a research focus in register analysis, English for Academic Purposes, and/or quantitative aspects of corpus linguistics (methodology, statistics and corpus design) are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Department of Linguistics and English Language has an internationally-renowned reputation in Corpus Linguistics. In addition to a strong tradition in corpus-based research, the Department also hosts a specialised corpus research centre (The ESRC Centre for Corpus Approaches to Social Science, CASS), which is one of the most significant concentrations of corpus linguistics research and was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for in 2015. You would work closely with the existing team of Corpus Linguists, and also connect with a wide variety of fields within the Department including: Cognitive Linguistics, Discourse Studies, English Language Studies, Literacy Studies, Second Language Learning, Teaching and Assessment, and Sociolinguistics.

You will help to develop, and teach on, a new distance-based MA degree in Corpus Linguistics. This new MA programme will be offered for the first time in October 2021. You will also contribute to the Department’s Undergraduate and Postgraduate level modules as required. The areas of teaching will include corpus methodology, statistics, corpus linguistics and language teaching and general academic study skills.

You will pursue research and publications at a level appropriate for a strong submission to the next Research Excellence Framework, and you will be expected to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students. You will also take on administrative responsibilities as requested by the Head of Department.

This is a full-time indefinite post beginning 1 September 2020.
