Faculty of Engineering and Computing
Our Faculty comprises of three schools, which collectively play a leading role in the fields of engineering and technology:
- The School of Electronic Engineering
- The School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering
- The School of Computing
The co-location of computing and engineering expertise within one Faculty is a particular strength, which reflects in our research and our programmes. Our teaching and research focuses on transforming lives and society.
All of our Undergraduate and Postgraduate taught programmes are designed to be industry relevant, an approach which has been consistent since the establishment of the Faculty. We aim to fully prepare our students for a successful career in the ICT or Engineering sectors. Our graduates are highly sought-after and are well equipped to be leaders in a working environment anywhere in the world.
Sitting at the heart of our Faculty are three, large-scale research centres, in the areas of Additive Manufacturing [Iform], Data Analytics [Insight] and Next Generation Digital Technologies [Adapt]. We also contribute to National Centres focused on Software Development [Lero], Future Comms and Networks [Connect ] and Photonics [IPIC], as well as university or Faculty centres in advanced manufacturing, biomedical engineering, network solutions for internet of things, complex systems modelling and the energy system. These leading centres not only contribute to our curriculum development but continue to change and improve lives and society.
Our staff are important to us and we have a very strong group of academic, research and technical staff who work together to achieve the Faculty and University goals. We understand and recognise the need to offer a substantial and solid education at all levels, and our Alumni are evidence of how this knowledge has been successfully transferred into a practical working environment.
Our Faculty continues to be current and progressive and has close links with Industry partners. We strive to continue to succeed together as team of talented engineers, scientists and above all educators and look forward to taking on challenges in an ever-changing world.
