Location

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Thuwal, Saudi Arabia

Description

The Bioengineering Program in the Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE) Division at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) aims at expanding research and higher education in Synthetic Biology, and at harnessing innovations in this field to create a more sustainable economy and address grand challenges. The program is inviting applications for a faculty position (Open Rank: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in the broad area of Synthetic Biology, including but not restricted to one or more of these research areas:

Chassis or host engineering: research interests involving cell-free systems capable of natural and non-natural reactions, on-demand production of single-cell hosts, and generating biomes or consortia with desired functions.

Biomolecular engineering: research interests involving on-demand design, generation, and evolution of macromolecules for desired functions, including natural and unnatural macromolecules, circuits, and pathway engineering.

Engineering DNA: research interests aiming at developing technologies for large-scale DNA synthesis, assembly, and editing.

Industrial-scale bioproduction: research interests aimed at developing technologies for large-scale biomanufacturing of biomolecules, including therapeutics and diagnostics.

We are seeking competitive, ambitious, and creative candidates with a minimum of 2-3 years of Postdoctoral training in key Synthetic Biology areas. The successful candidates will be highly self-motivated and eager to work across Divisions in multi-disciplinary settings with individuals of different scientific and cultural backgrounds. Candidates are expected to teach and actively participate in developing the recently established Bioengineering Program.

Candidates applying for a position at the Assistant Professor level should show their potential for establishing and leading a high-impact research program and those applying for Associate and Full Professor positions should have a distinguished, track-recorded and internationally recognized research program.
