Research Assistant - NHS Asymptomatic Testing Lab in the School of Pharmacy

Job description

The School of Pharmacy at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Assistant - NHS Asymptomatic Testing Lab in the School of Pharmacy on a temporary basis.

As part of the UK Covid Mass Testing Programme, Queen’s University are partnering with local NHS Trusts in Northern Ireland to deliver a testing service for asymptomatic NHS staff. Frontline staff will be able to obtain a saliva test using the OptiGene Direct Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) assay via their place of work.  

We have a LAMP testing laboratory set up at the Medical Biology Centre which will process samples for healthcare staff in the Belfast, Southern and South-Eastern Trusts. We are now recruiting staff to perform this vitally important testing.

This post is available on a fixed term contract for 3 months with possibility of extension or available until 24/04/2022.  

The successful candidate must have and your CV/Cover letter (or application form) should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • Degree in Microbiology, Pharmacy, Microbial Ecology, Molecular Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry or related discipline
  • Have 1 year’s relevant experience working in a laboratory setting.
  • Willing to work shifts which may be outside normal office hours.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
