Job Details

Working within the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering, you will provide expertise in an area of Electrical and Electronic Engineering to further enhance research, teaching and entrepreneurial activities. This will include undertaking individual and joint research to produce high-quality academic outputs, designing, developing and delivering high-quality teaching activities, and participating in external activity to generate income and promote the subject.

The Department has particular research strengths in Renewable Energy Technologies & Materials, Electrical Power & Control Systems, Photonics, Communications (Optical and Wireless), Satellite and CubeSats Systems, IoT and Sensors.

Aligning with and/or expanding the research strength above, we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with expertise in any of the following areas:

  • Analogue electronics and circuit design
  • Digital electronics, synthesis (e.g. VHDL on FPGA), FPGA for control systems and system-on-chip (SoC)
  • Power electronics and motors
  • Power transmission and battery storage devices & systems
  • Rugged electronics and environmental testing for extreme environments, e.g. space.

However, we will consider high-quality applications in any relevant Electrical and Electronic Engineering teaching or research areas.

You must hold a first degree and be qualified to Doctoral level in a relevant discipline and have subject expertise in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with specialist knowledge gained through research activity, professional practice or consultancy. Proven ability to deliver high-quality research-led teaching within an appropriate field and a strong publication profile are essential. Preferably, the successful candidate will have Chartered Engineer status or working towards it, in addition to Fellowship of Higher Education Academy.
