RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and experiential training in veterinary pathology, including preparation, presentation and review of course material, lectures, seminars and tutorials,
  • Evaluation of students, student support and participation in curriculum improvement and development
  • Diagnostic necropsy and biopsy duties on a rotational basis
  • Active participation in departmental research programmes
  • Successful publication in national and international journals
  • Service rendering to developing communities and continuing education programmes
  • Administrative and management tasks as delegated by the Head of Department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A BVSc or BVMCh degree or an equivalent veterinary qualification
  • A MMedVet (Path) degree or an equivalent post graduate qualification in veterinary pathology.
  • Registration with the South African Veterinary Council as a veterinary pathologist or eligibility for registration within 6 months
  • Appropriate experience and knowledge in diagnostic veterinary pathology
  • Computer skills for presentation, word-processing and spread sheets
  • Appropriate language and communication skills.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Computer skills for presentation, word-processing and spreadsheets; and
  • Appropriate language and communication skills.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Lecturing experience in veterinary pathology.
  • Membership and contribution to pathology organisations.
  • Employment at an academic institution or research facility.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED/UMVUZO medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
