Design Technician required to assist in the practical manufacture of specialised technical and bespoke assemblies for use in World Class Education and Research

To be successful in this application, you will have a skill level equivalent to achievement of HNC, A-Level, NVQ3 in engineering or relevant engineering discipline with proven work experience acquired in relevant technical support roles and job-related training in Mechanical Engineering and have an excellent background in precision engineering. 

You will be able to use your considerable skills and experience to assist in the manufacture of complex and high precision project and research work from a wide variety of materials using a range of conventional machine tools including Drills, Band Saws and Laser Cutters. Ideally you will also have excellent hand fitting and assembly skills. 

We are looking for a practical engineer who is excited at the thought of joining a team at the forefront of Engineering Education and Research, assisting our students in manufacturing research and project parts that will be used in all environments from beneath the oceans to outer space and everything in between. 

You will need to have excellent communication and time management skills, be able to work in a changing environment and be keen to pass your considerable experience and knowledge onto others. You will be used to working to tight tolerances and be comfortable in independently producing one off component parts to Engineering drawings.

Your hours of work are designated as 08.30 – 16.30 (excluding 1 hour break during this period) Monday to Friday, or at other times as designated by the Head of Department or their representative.
