Research Assistant, Nutritional Epidemiology

Job Description

Applications are invited for the following full-time position in the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health:

Research Assistant x 1 (up to 1 year)

A research assistant position is available in the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health to support the Principal Investigators in research projects in the areas of Nutritional Epidemiology.
Major duties and responsibility of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Organising and preparation of study samples and chemicals for solvent extraction, mass spectrometry analysis and long-term storage,
  • Managing study samples and data,
  • Pre-processing and analysing of mass-spectrometric data
  • Participate in feature annotation workflow and MS/MS fragmentation experiments for metabolite identification,
  • Curate in-house databases,
  • Report writing, presentations, and publication of results and findings in peer-reviewed journals.

The candidate must be an independent mature worker who is well-organized and has a growth mindset. Candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. He/She must have good interpersonal skills and possess the ability to work effectively with colleagues to achieve team goals. Good proficiency in the following areas is preferred:

  1. Microsoft Office Applications, particularly MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  2. Experience in basic laboratory techniques
  3. Experience in mass-spectrometry analysis and/or data processing is an advantage
  4. Experience in metabolite annotation and identification is an advantage
  5. Experience in R is an advantage

Qualifications

The successful applicant is expected to possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Life Sciences, Food Sciences, Public Health, preferably with relevant experience.
