About the opportunity

The Sydney School of Public Health are seeking a Research Assistant to join their team, to to contribute to patient-centered outcomes research in chronic disease, primarily chronic kidney disease. You will have opportunities to contribute to various projects on the topics of loneliness, social isolation, and sexual health in patients with chronic kidney disease and related conditions. The types of projects may include qualitative studies (interviews, focus groups), observational studies, consumer involvement in research initiatives (research priority-setting), systematic reviews, clinical trials, economic evaluations, patient-reported outcomes, and choice experiments.

This role will require travel between the LHD at Parramatta, Nepean, and the Blue Mountains.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work on ethics applications and produce manuscripts
  • work with patients in a client-facing role, including with recruitment, calling, liaising with clinicians, data collection, conducting qualitative research
  • assist with the design, development, and documentation of suitable research protocols in clinical patient-centered projects in the area of chronic kidney disease and related conditions - including literature and systematic reviews, and qualitative (interviews, focus groups) and quantitative studies (observational studies, trials)
  • collect research data, enters/stores in appropriate statistical software, and prepares statistical analysis/reports as required.

About you

To be successful in this role, you:

  • have, or are completing, an Honours or master's degree in Public Health, Medicine, Psychology, Social Science, or a health-related science, and have some knowledge/skills/experience in health research
  • have an interest in chronic disease and patient-centred outcomes research (desirable)
  • have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day to day operational matters
  • can work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work.
