Research Associate Position in Remote Sensing of Tropical Forests

The Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking to hire a Research Associate working on remote sensing of vegetation structure dynamics over tropic forests. This position is an exciting and challenging opportunity ideally suited for someone interested in developing management-relevant applied science addressing conservation and restoration decisions.

Responsibility

This position requires strong quantitative/data analysis skills to explore large-scale spatial and temporal trends of ecosystem functioning and structure over tropical forests. It will involve the compilation of several spatio-temporal satellite products and multiple airborne lidar data sets. S/he will have knowledge of tropical forest ecosystem, and will have strong quantitative analysis and data processing skills. S/he will also provide assistance to other ongoing projects, including data collection, product management and literature review. S/he will work closely with the PI to ensure the requirements of the project work plan are met.

The positions are available for up two years. Salary will be commensurate with experience and it will be aligned with the NUS salary scale. An annual bonus, dependent on performance, is also potentially available, in-line with NUS policy.

Qualifications

  • A minimal of MSc degree in Geography, Earth System Science, Forestry, Environmental Science or a related field
  • Excellent programming techniques
  • Strong quantitative data analysis
  • Good oral and written communication skills 
  • Some fieldwork experience, preferably in the tropics 
  • Prior experience in publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals
