The University of Southampton seeks to appoint a Senior Teaching Fellow in Anatomical Sciences. This post is based at Southampton General Hospital in the Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences (CLAS) which comprises a large Anatomical Sciences Laboratory and adjacent office. We are part of the School of Primary Care, Population Sciences and Medical Education in the Faculty of Medicine and we have close interdisciplinary links with other members of the Faculty and the wider University. 

CLAS has an excellent reputation for innovation in Education and our principal role is the development and delivery of human anatomical sciences teaching and learning for undergraduate students in the early years of the Bachelor of Medicine (BM) programmes. We also contribute to courses for a range of postgraduate professionals including surgeons, anaesthetists, and other health professionals. There are opportunities to take on curriculum leadership roles within the Faculty, such as module lead, year lead etc. 

Our shared philosophy in teaching and learning has evolved over a number of years and relies upon a scholarly approach to our activities. We are looking for someone who is developing and growing a consistent national reputation in teaching anatomical sciences to join our enthusiastic team in our commitment to deliver the highest quality student experience. 

Central to our method of delivery is a student-centred approach providing students with a resource rich environment in which to work. Guidance is provided in the form of a study guide and students undertake a range of activities using high quality bespoke prosected specimens, plastinated specimens, museum specimens, plastic models, bones, imaging material and eLearning packages. In addition, we may facilitate dissection and research projects for students with a particular interest in anatomy or anatomical education. 

Our team comprises the Head of Group, 2 Senior Teaching Fellows, 2 Teaching Fellows and an Education Support Technician. Laboratory Manager, Deputy Laboratory Manager, Learning Resources Technician and two Anatomy Technicians. Our work is supported by the CLAS administrator/bequest secretary.

The successful candidate for this post will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and an excellent knowledge of anatomy and its sub-disciplines, proven teaching skills, will be enthusiastic and flexible in contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and will be keen to participate fully in the intellectual and academic activities of a lively and committed department which values collegiality very highly.
