DEPARTMENT OF PRACTICAL THEOLOGY AND MISSION STUDIES
SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in The Department Practical Theology and Mission Studies (PTMS) with preferably a special focus on Pastoral Care and Pastoral Theology;
  • Conducting scholarly research in the field as mentioned above;
  • Supervising master’s and doctoral students;
  • Mentoring students at undergraduate level;
  • Performing academic administration and management;
  • Performing other duties as delegated by the Head of the Department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Senior Lecturer

  • A doctoral degree with further specialisation in Practical Theology;
  • At least three years’ tertiary or related teaching experience;
  • Evidence of at least three publications in accredited journals;
  • Evidence of conference papers delivered;
  • Evidence of community engagement;
  • Academic Administration experience

Associate Professor

  • A Doctoral degree with specialisation in Practical Theology;
  • At least five years’ experience in lecturing/involvement in a tertiary education institution;
  • Experience in curriculum development and curriculum innovation;
  • Proven research record of academic publications of at least six - eight publications in accredited journals;
  • Evidence of conference papers delivered;
  • National and International recognition as an established academic;
  • Successful supervision of postgraduate students on Masters level and Doctoral level;
  • Evidence of membership of international scholarly bodies;
  • Evidence of community engagement;
  • Academic Administration experience

Professor

  • A Doctoral degree with specialisation in Practical Theology;
  • At least eight years’ experience in lecturing/involvement in a tertiary education institution;
  • Experience in curriculum development and curriculum innovation;
  • Proven research record of academic publications of at least ten - fifteen publications in accredited journals;
  • Evidence of conference papers delivered internationally;
  • Well-established record of peer reviewed research publications in national and internationally accredited journals;
  • National and International recognition as an established academic;
  • Successful supervision of postgraduate students on Masters and Doctorate level;
  • Evidence of membership of international scholarly bodies;
  • Evidence of community engagement;
  • Academic Administration experience;
  • Preferably an NRF-rated scholar.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Specialised research in the stipulated areas of Practical Theology with proven evidence of peer recognition;

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Membership of at least one scholarly society related to Practical Theology;
  • NRF rating

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
