In pursuit of the ideals of excellence and diversity, the University of Pretoria wishes to invite applications for the Administrative Officer vacancy in the Department of Finance – Budget Control Division.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Assisting the Manager: Claims division in reaching the departments targets;
  • Registering new profiles on PeopleSoft and correcting bank rejected profiles.;
  • Ensuring that all travel and expense claims received are documented;
  • Processing accounts payable claims according to the policy guidelines of the Department of Finance; and
  • Assisting with general administrative tasks to ensure smooth flow of payment of claims and advances.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Three-year diploma in Accounting or Financial Management; and
  • Three years’ experience in financial administration.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Knowledge of Higher Education;
  • Foreign Exchange knowledge;
  • Statutory guidelines on travelling and subsistence;
  • Accounting business cycles;
  • Proficient in the use MS Office;
  • Advanced competency in MS Excel;
  • Appropriate business writing and communication skills;
  • Accountability for own performance;
  • Commitment to delivering value to clients; 
  • Planning and prioritising of tasks;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Aptitude for working with numbers and accounting calculations;
  • Self-motivated and disciplined;
  • Business ethics and professional integrity;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Administration and organization skills; and
  • E-mail etiquette.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Relevant BCom Degree;
  • Five years’ experience in financial administration;
  • Two years’ experience within a Tertiary Education environment; and
  • Two years’ experience in the use of PeopleSoft or equivalent ERP system.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
