The Faculty of Social Sciences and the INDEED research project invite applications for the position of

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

for a one-year, full-time, fixed-term period from March 1, 2022 onwards (or starting point as agreed).

The successful applicant will join a research team of the Horizon 2020 funded research project INDEED (Strengthening a comprehensive approach to preventing and counteracting radicalisation based on a universal evidence-based model for evaluation of radicalisation prevention and mitigation).

The main responsibility of the researcher will be to participate in developing the evidence-based evaluation model and conducting the review of previous literature needed for this task. The researcher will participate in other project activities, including project meetings, events and workshops with academic researchers, policy-makers and practitioners. The duties of the postdoctoral researcher include also teaching for the Faculty of Social Sciences (5% of the annual workload). The position may involve some travelling.

QUALIFICATIONS

An appointee to the position must hold a doctoral degree in the field of social sciences (such as political science, sociology, public administration, social policy or criminology). The default assumption is that the appointee will hold a doctoral degree before commencing work in the project, and have the ability to conduct independent scientific work. The applicant should have completed a doctoral degree no more than three years ago.

The successful applicant should also have good cooperation and research management skills, excellent command of written English and appropriate academic teaching skills. Previous experience in research on radicalisation, terrorism and political violence, working in Horizon 2020 or similar projects, and cooperation between researchers and policy-makers/practitioners is appreciated.

The chosen applicant is expected to reside in Finland while employed by the University of Helsinki, and to participate actively in the intellectual life of the Centre for European Studies and the wider scientific community across and beyond the Faculty of Social Sciences and the University of Helsinki. The Faculty of Social Sciences provides assistance in relocation. The working language will be English.

The annual gross salary range will be approx. €41,500 – €50,000, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
