Lead Evening Therapist - Part time 0.5 FTE, Permanent

We are seeking a Lead Student Counsellor on a part time basis (0.5 FTE) to join our Counselling and Mental Well-being team at Napier University to oversee the evening provision and support a small team of counsellors who provide evening services. Edinburgh Napier Student Counselling and Mental Well-being offer counselling and support to a student body consisting of approximately 19,500 students.

The Evening Lead Therapist will supervise our evening counselling provision and take part in developing its protocols and procedures, ensuring safe and ethical practice. They will support the student journey through the delivery of service assessments, counselling and group interventions and ensure students receive appropriate professional support.

The role

The Lead will provide professional, sensitive and student focussed therapy to a wide range of students across the institution with referral to specialist services as appropriate.

This role will oversee the counselling evening provision and be the first line of support for counsellors who practice in the evenings, which includes giving clinical advice and dealing with and referring issues concerning risk in line with the service guidance.

This role will people manage part time counsellors and mentor trainees within the team as well as overseeing and developing the counselling placement scheme, always ensuring best practice.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a degree qualified practitioner with professional BACP or BABCP accreditation (or registered with BACP or COSCA and working towards the accreditation). You will have significant post qualification experience ideally gained in Higher Education with expertise working with university students.

You will have considerable experience of providing one to one counselling as well as online counselling and capability offering goal orientated one to one therapy and crisis intervention support. In addition you will have experience of introducing and managing new methods of online, web-based support and a range of health promotion activities, with knowledge of successfully evaluating service provision.

You will have experience of team leading and/or a clinical supervision qualification and a flexible outlook with the ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills.
