The School of Information and Physical Sciences accommodates the disciplines of Mathematics, Data Science and Statistics, Computing and Information Technology, and Physics. The vision of the school is aligned with the University's strategic plan and aims to provide a transformative, modern and relevant learning experience where students acquire practical skills, leading to work and life-ready graduates. Statistics is one of the most versatile and in-demand disciplines and is relatable to a wide range of interests. We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Statistics to our Discipline of Data Science and Statistics to contribute to the School’s teaching and research efforts and to grow its programs. The discipline is highly research active, contributing substantially to the overall research inputs and outputs of the School and College. This is reflected in the 2018 Excellence in Research in Australia outcomes where several areas of activity at the School, including Statistics, were ranked 5 – well above world standard. You will work in a dynamic and engaging working environment to enable the School to excel in both higher education teaching and research. You will create partnerships between the University and external research stakeholders to attract competitive external grant funding and to deliver high-impact research outcomes. You will work cohesively across the university to strengthen current and future research priorities of the school.

The Lecturer in Statistics will work across all areas of academic activity: education, research and engagement. The successful candidate will be part of an innovative team, where they will utilise their demonstrated skills in blended learning and build and foster skills in research in the Statistics area. You will develop high-quality student-centred undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and deliver high-impact research. You will make a positive contribution to a culture of innovation and experience for students and to engage and work with industry on challenging research problems.

This full-time ongoing position will be located at the Callaghan Campus. The University supports flexible work arrangements which may negotiated to meet a candidate’s personal circumstances.

How will you become part of our research community?  

With a passion for teaching and a flair for researching in Statistics, you have proven experience in working autonomously, goal-oriented and prioritising to provide adaptive teaching methods, such as online teaching and the demonstration of online tutorials. You will have capability and eagerness to engage and network with external stakeholders and to secure research funding and to assist industry in solving highly complex technical problems. You can demonstrate a strong research trajectory though successful publication in high-impact academic journals in the areas of Statistics.

How will we support you?

The remuneration is $103,221 to $122,576*, plus 17% superannuation.
