This research will be carried out as part of the EPSRC funded project – “The new intensity frontier: exploring quantum electrodynamic plasmas” under the supervision of Professor Gianluca Sarri, with emphasis on studying high-field quantum electrodynamics and the generation of extreme secondary particle and photon sources.

The successful candidate will join an established group, with a vibrant network of national and international collaborators working towards the design, execution, and analysis of a series of high-profile experimental campaigns at world-leading laser facilities and particle accelerators, including the Central Laser Facility and the Stanford Linear Accelerator.

This is truly an exciting opportunity, where the successful candidate will be part of a world class innovative and mission-led team, with responsibilities in independent research, planning and collaboration.

The post is initially for 24 months with the possibility of extending it for a further 12 months.

The successful candidate must have and your CV/Cover letter should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • At least 3 years relevant research experience (relevant PhD research may be acceptable) to include :
    • Undertaking research in the area of high power laser matter interactions for the generation of high energy electron beams and secondary sources;
    • Experience with high-power laser systems and laser-plasma interactions.
    • A proven track record of using experimental models to carry out analyses, critical evaluations, and interpretations of experimental data as to the research project
    • Working effectively as part of a research team in the development and promotion of the research theme.

*Please note the above are not an exhaustive list.*

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
