A position is available in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton for a Senior Research Fellow in Qualitative Methods. The position is based at Aldermoor Health Centre in the Primary Care and Population Sciences Academic Unit and remote working is also possible. The post is offered at ERE Level 4 or ERE Level 5 depending on qualifications and experience.

The project aims to develop and validate population clusters that consider health and social care determinants and subsequent need for people with multiple long-term conditions (MLTC-M) within large national databases. The research will use data-driven artificial intelligence methods that will be compared to expert-driven approaches. This is alongside substantial qualitative work packages to establish key biological, psycho-social, economic and environmental variables that are necessary considerations in the delivery of integrated and tailored health care.

The post holder will contribute to qualitative work packages including recruitment of participants, conducting semi-structured interviews on the telephone, analysis of data and writing up findings for publication. This programme of work is funded by the NIHR.

You will be educated to degree level and must have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in qualitative research. You will be able to work to deadlines and manage your time independently. You will possess excellent organisational skills. Previous experience of qualitative research and in particular interviewing participants is essential.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

This post is offered full-time for a fixed term contract of 24 months.
