Applications are invited for appointment as Research Officer in the Department of Microbiology (Ref.: 508535), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis or a one-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree preferably in Microbiology, Biological Science, Immunology or related disciplines, with at least 6 years’ solid hands-on laboratory work experience in mammalian cell culture, virus cultivation and animal handling in biosafety level 2 and 3 (BSL-2 and BSL-3) laboratories. Experience in small animal challenge with BSL-2 and BSL-3 viruses; and a solid background in Immunology with extensive experience in immunological techniques, including but not limited to ELISA, ELISpot, multi-color flow cytometry, primary cell isolation and culture and immunocytochemistry are required. Experience in basic virological and molecular biological techniques would be desirable. Applicants should have good interpersonal and organizational skills, and proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese.

They should also be responsible, self-motivated and able to work independently. ​The appointee will be involved in vaccine development for respiratory diseases using small animal models.  He/She will also provide virus culture and animal handling training in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories to staff and students, and perform other related duties as assigned. Applicants who have responded to the previous advertisement (Ref.: 508074) need not re-apply.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
