The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics within the School of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering offers undergraduate, BEng and Meng degrees in Mechanical Engineering and in Aeronautical Engineering as well as a number of related MSc programmes. The department benefits from extensive workshops and laboratories used to support teaching as well as extensive research facilities including thermo-fluid test cells and wind tunnels as well as a parallel computing cluster that are used to support undergraduate and MSc students’ projects.

Responsibilities

The Department is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic to a Lectureship, education role profile, to undertake teaching in the subjects of Manufacturing and Materials as well as other related subjects such as Engineering Design including group design projects; Engineering Science and Engineering Mathematics. The appointed Lecturer will lead curriculum development in relevant areas of expertise including established and emerging topics. They will supervise undergraduate and MSc projects and undertake academic administration and management duties and focus on improving students’ learning and experience and employability prospects.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will hold a first degree and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline and will have appropriate membership in relevant professional body. They will have a good understanding of modern trends in higher education and the engineering deployment market in the Mechanical Engineering and related sectors and breadth of knowledge in Manufacturing and Materials well as other subjects relevant to Mechanical Engineering Curriculum. They will have a relevant track record of delivering high quality education.
