DCU Anti-Corruption Research Centre

ARC is Ireland’s first academic research centre dedicated to research, policy, and education on corruption and anti-corruption. ARC is focused on understanding the causes and consequences of corruption and the development of effective anti-corruption strategies. ARC‘s membership comprises experienced and accomplished scholars from across the social sciences, including economics, political science, management, law, and sociology. Role Profile

DCU ARC is seeking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher for three years to work on a funded project that will examine the idea that corruption imposes specific costs on women and that corruption impedes coordinated action on climate change.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Co-PI of the project, Dr. Robert Gillanders of DCU Business School and DCU ARC, the Postdoctoral Researcher will work with colleagues to implement a fixed programme of research and disseminate the results.
  • Disseminate the results via conferences, peer reviewed journal articles, and policy briefs.
  • Contribute to the organisation and implementation of stakeholder events and online training and outreach resources.
  • Help develop and implement online resources
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training activities based on the results of the research

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum criteria

  • The successful candidate will have a Primary PhD, in economics, political science, or a related discipline.
  • In addition to the above it is desirable that the candidate possess a subset of the following skills.
  • expertise in corruption studies or political economy more generally
  • strong quantitative/econometric skills
  • capable of working independently
  • a team player, they must demonstrate initiative, be hard working, versatile and productive
  • excellent written and oral proficiency in English
  • ability to communicate effectively both written (for presentations) and verbal (for conference talks)
  • ability to prioritise workload and work to exacting deadlines
  • ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and multicultural team
  • publication record in peer reviewed journals
  • experience with qualitative research methods
  • experience with experimental methods
  • experience organising conferences and workshops
  • experience with the development of online resources

Essential Training

The post holder will be required to undertake the following essential compliance training: Orientation, Health and Safety and Intellectual Property and Data Protection training. Other training may need to be undertaken when required.

Candidates will be assessed on the following competencies:

Discipline knowledge and Research skills – Demonstrates knowledge of a research discipline and the ability to conduct a specific programme of research within that discipline.

Understanding the Research Environment – Demonstrates an awareness of the research environment (for example funding bodies) and the ability to contribute to grant applications.

Communicating Research – Demonstrates the ability to convey their research with their peers and the wider research community (for example presenting at conferences and publishing research in relevant journals) and the potential to teach and tutor students.

Managing & Leadership skills - Demonstrates the potential to manage a research project including the supervision of undergraduate students.
