Curtin Medical School

Established in 2017, the Curtin Medical School, which is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences, brings together multidisciplinary teaching and research expertise, and leads the only undergraduate medical degree in Western Australia. Curtin Medical School is committed to producing graduates who are better equipped to meet community needs, with primary care expertise, strong leadership skills and the ability to operate effectively in interprofessional care teams.

We are looking for a part time Year coordinator to manage the Year 5 cohort of medical students in the MBBS course.

In this role you will….

  • Plan and implement the academic components of MBBS Year 5 (e.g. clinical placements, electives, selectives and Back to Campus activities), in conjunction with the Director of Learning and Teaching, the Director of Clinical Education, and internal and external parties involved in different components, leading to graduation.
  • Monitor and lead quality improvements to curriculum and teaching/learning across the MBBS Year 5, in conjunction with Clinical Specialist Leads and Curriculum Theme Leads, to ensure relevance and a coherent student experience.
  • Lead a key assessment task for Year 5 (written assessment/OSCE) and liaise with other academic and professional staff leading/supporting specific assessments within the year, including national level assessment benchmarking projects.
  • Monitor and report on student performance in Workplace-Based Assessments (WBA) across Year 5 and coordinate associated competency panels.
  • Monitor student progress across the year, oversee remediation pathways, and ensure student readiness for internship.
  • Ensure effective communication with student cohort in Year 5 regarding academic and professional requirements.
  • Chair Year Working Party and liaise with Chair of the Undergraduate Education Committee regarding implementation of the year.
  • Contribute to the teaching of MBBS students, face to face and/or online, related to field of expertise.
  • Support external accreditation activities and write reports related to learning and teaching in Year 5.

We are looking for someone with…

  • A degree in Medicine with APHRA registration
  • Significant experience and record of providing supervision to medical student in clinical settings.
  • PhD or Clinical Fellowship
  • Experience in a coordinating/leadership role in an MBBS/MD course (highly desirable)
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with students and staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in the discipline/profession and in community engagement.
  • Extensive clinical experience in Medicine, holding a general and specialist registration.
  • Demonstrated strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with others.
