You will work on the development and characterization of sulfur electrodes with advanced structures and compositions for applications in aluminium-sulfur batteries. The project is funded by the H2020 call FET PROACTIVE and involves leading universities and companies in the field (VARTA, Tech2Market, TU Graz, DTU Denmark, Leicester, ICTP-CSIC and Southampton). Combining a wide range of expertise (polymer and material sciences, electrochemistry, computational modelling, etc.) the project aims to develop novel aluminium-sulfur batteries with the potential to outperform lithium-ion batteries in terms of cost, safety and abundance of the elements composing the battery. Southampton is leading the work package on the sulfur electrode development, which aims to develop novel sulfur chemistries and structures based on a rational understanding of the reaction mechanism (http://www.amapolaproject.eu/).

To be successful you will have a PhD, or within six months of completion, or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in materials science, electrochemistry or closely related discipline.  Along with demonstrable expertise in chemistry or material science and in-depth experience of electrochemistry.
