Role Description

As part of our continued pursuit of excellence and achievement, we are looking for either a Reader or Professor to support our long-term plans and further strengthen core areas of our research and teaching within Environment and Agrifood.

About Environment and Agrifood

The Environment and Agrifood Theme is based in the School of Water, Energy & Environment (SWEE). You would be part of the Centre for Agricultural and Environmental Informatics. The Centre has leading UK expertise in data sciences, informatics, and decision sciences, coupled with novel sensor technology and informatics development.

About the Role

As post holder, you will lead the area of quantitative analysis of environmental implications of agricultural and food systems with a view to identifying optimal strategies for maintaining a healthy, sustainable food supply. You would contribute fully to national and international research underpinning environmental aims such as Net-Zero Carbon and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The individual would work with colleagues in the Theme, the School and across the University, in particular developing collaborations with academics in the School of Management. 

About You

You will hold a PhD in a Science or Engineering discipline, incorporating Agricultural Science, Mathematics and Modelling, Environmental Assessment and Systems Analysis (or related subject area). You will also hold a teaching qualification (PGCert in Academic Practice or equivalent) and/or Membership of Higher Education Academy.

In addition to this, you will also have an active research programme in Mathematical or Statistical Modelling of Agricultural Systems and who has interests in developing and applying these tools to enhance sustainable food systems. Skills and interests include Agricultural and Land-use Modelling, LCA, Agricultural Systems Modelling, economic analysis of markets and supply chains, and use of AI, digital technologies and data streams in Agricultural Systems.
