SRUC is unique in Scotland and one of the largest organisations of its kind in Europe.  Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.

The Rural Economy, Environment and Society Department at SRUC is one of the largest groupings of socio-economists in the UK. Our work in climate change and animal health has informed a number of local and international agendas. Current global challenges mean that the importance of animal health economics and evidence-led research has never been greater.

We are looking for an economist with experience of animal health economic frameworks applied to climate change.  The successful candidate would be expected to lead ongoing research work as part of EPIC – the Scottish Government-funded Centre of Expertise on Animal Disease Outbreaks.  The post holder will lead a stream of work on the economic analysis of animal health outbreaks.  This work will inform Scottish Government to understand the impacts for policy analysis and decision making.  In addition to working in EPIC the post-holder would also be expected to extend their own research and teaching profile within animal health economics and climate change.

You will have a doctoral degree in a subject related to economics with a background in applied economic analysis towards agricultural and climate change issues.  You should have at least 3 years post-doctoral experience, demonstrating the ability to successfully win and manage grants, as well as publish results in leading journals.  Evidence of writing for a range of audiences would also be an expected.

This position will be primarily based in the Rural Economy, Environment and Society Research Group at SRUC, King’s Buildings Edinburgh.  Informal enquiries may be addressed to Prof Andrew Barnes.
