Job Description

The Tropical Marine Science Institute’s EMID research group is looking for numerical modeller who will perform wave and hydrodynamic modelling with the focus to elucidate how physico-chemical components impact ecology in the tropical marine/coastal environment. The candidate (s) should be self-motivated, driven, with a keen interest in research and be prepared to work as a part of a team that carries out field sampling, laboratory and numerical modelling work.

The successful candidate should have a good understanding of hydrodynamic modelling, impact assessment; and possess the experience to model coastal and marine physico-chemical and ecological processes. The candidate is required to be able to independently develop required models and/or to use provided models for the required focus areas.

Successful candidates will be appointed on a 12-month contract, renewable subject to performance and funding availability.

Candidates are expected to commence work immediately.

Qualifications

  • Possess a PhD in a relevant field e.g. Civil Engineering; Oceanography; Environmental Engineering.
  • Experience with wave, hydrodynamic and sediment transport modelling using open-source and/or commercial software packages such as Delft3D, MIKE3, SWAN, SWASH, XBeach etc.
  • Knowledge in programming software such as Matlab, R, Python etc.
  • Proficient with basic Microsoft Suite and geospatial information systems
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
