ANNOUNCEMENT FOR AN ACADEMIC POSITION

DEPARTMENT OF FRENCH AND EUROPEAN STUDIES

The University of Cyprus accepts applications for one (1) academic position at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor in the following field: “French/Francophone Literature & European Literatures & Literary Theory (Modern and Contemporary)”.

Excellent knowledge of French and fluency in English are required. Knowledge of German or another European language will be considered an additional qualification.

For all academic ranks, a PhD degree from a recognized University is required.

The conditions for appointment depend on the academic rank and include: previous academic experience, research record showing the scientific contributions of the candidate in his/her field, previous experience in developing high quality undergraduate and postgraduate programs of study.

Citizenship of the Republic of Cyprus is not a requirement.

The selected candidate shall participate in all academic, administrative and cultural activities of the Department and the University.

In the event that the selected candidate does not have a sufficient knowledge of Greek, the candidate as well as the Department in which he/she is recruited will bear the responsibility to make sure he/she will learn the language within three years. The official languages of Instruction of the University of Cyprus are Greek and Turkish. It should be noted that each Department will establish its own criteria regarding the required level of language proficiency.

According to the current legislation, the annual gross salary (including the 13th salary) for a full-time employment is calculated as follow:

Assistant Professor (Scale Α13-Α14)    €58,428.91-€78,798.61
Lecturer (Scale Α12-Α13)    €44,410.28-€72,265.43\

Employee contributions to the various governmental funds will be deducted from the above amounts.

  5. Summary of previous research and a statement of plans for future research (up to 3 pages)
  6. List of publications
  7. Representative publications (up to 3 publications which should be individually uploaded). The submission of representative publications is non-mandatory for the rank of Lecturer.
  8. The names and e-mails of three academic referees, who, upon submission of the application, will be automatically notified to provide recommendation letters (in English) up to seven days past the deadline for the applications submission.

Documents 1-7 must be individually uploaded as separate PDF documents.

Selected candidates will be required to submit certified copies of their degrees issued by the Ministry of Education (for the degrees received from Universities in Cyprus) or by any relevant issuing authority (for the Universities abroad).

Applications and/or required documents and/or reference letters submitted in the past in response to previous calls will not be considered valid and must be resubmitted.

Incomplete applications, i.e., not conforming to the specifications of the call or not including all the required items or documents via the electronic submission system, will not be considered.
