Work type: Full-time
Department: Research Division for Ecology and Biodiversity (26020)
Categories: Academic-related Staff

Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the Research Division for Ecology and Biodiversity (Ref.: 504671), to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Ecology, Biodiversity, Conservation Science or a related discipline.  Those with skills in population modelling and estimation in wild mammals; occupancy estimation of unmarked animals; “Citizen Science”, “Community Science” and other participatory approaches; and experience in deployment and use of data from camera traps, and/or ecological surveys, including vegetation monitoring and obtaining soil samples are particularly desirable.  Applicants should highlight their relevant experience and publications related to the above skills.  Due to the nature of the Hong Kong Wild Boar Project, a good command of both written and spoken Chinese and the ability to speak Cantonese are highly desirable.

The appointee will work in the Applied Behavioural Ecology and Conservation Lab led by Dr. Hannah Mumby to carry out research, primarily in the Hong Kong Wild Boar Project.  This project aims to investigate the ecology of wild boars, interactions with humans and potential strategies for coexistence.  The research group is highly multidisciplinary and brings a range of approaches to the problem-oriented research projects.  More information about the research can be found at https://www.hannahsmumby.co.uk.  Enquiries about the post should be sent to Dr. Mumby at hsmumby@hku.hk.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.

The University only accepts online application for the above post.  Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date C.V. with the name of two or three referees and a statement of research interests.  Review of applications will commence as soon as possible and continue until August 30, 2021, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
